My name is Denise Bone, and I currently serve as the deputy superintendent at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility. When I began my career with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, I was looking for a change. What I found was more than just a new career, it was a new purpose and a community of people who have become some of the best I have ever known.
I started my career as a correctional officer in 2003, not fully knowing what to expect, but ready to give it my full dedication. Over the years, I have worked in nearly every post, both security and non-security, at Central Mississippi Correctional Facility. The clear structure and expectations helped guide me, and I quickly realized this was where I belonged.
I was promoted to lieutenant, where I served as a disciplinary hearing officer and shift supervisor before transferring to CID. After being promoted to captain, I continued to grow in leadership roles, serving as deputy warden, warden, chief warden, and now deputy superintendent of CMCF.
Through hard work, commitment, and dedication, I have been fortunate to build a career I am proud of. MDOC has provided me with opportunities I could have never imagined, along with a work family that means so much to me.
