Fortune, Chiquitia

My name is Chiquitia Fortune, and I serve as a warden at Walnut Grove Correctional Facility. In my role, I oversee three housing units that accommodate a total of 224 offenders.

I graduated from the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy in Pearl, Mississippi, in 2008. I earned an Associate’s degree in criminal justice from Hinds Community College and later continued my education at Jackson State University, where I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and correctional services with a minor in sociology in 2021.

I have dedicated four years to the Mississippi Department of Corrections, during which I have held various positions, including major, training director, and deputy warden. Prior to my tenure at Walnut Grove Correctional Facility, I worked with the Carthage Police Department and the Leake County Sheriff’s Department. I also continue to serve part-time with the Walnut Grove Police Department.

My experience with MDOC has been immensely rewarding. I value the opportunity to assist in the rehabilitation of offenders and help them become productive members of society. I also take pride in learning and applying MDOC policies in my daily responsibilities.

The Mississippi Department of Corrections is an excellent agency for individuals seeking job stability, career advancement, and retirement benefits. I look forward to continuing a long and successful career with this organization.
