My name is Cornesha Harris, and I serve as a corporal at the Mississippi State Penitentiary. I have been with the Mississippi Department of Corrections for nine months.

During my time here, I have learned from veteran officers about policies, procedures, and administrative processes. I have also developed strong communication skills by interacting with a wide range of individuals.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is helping maintain a safe and structured environment, knowing that my work contributes to the well-being of both staff and inmates. This experience has also helped me develop a deeper sense of empathy and understanding, recognizing that everyone has a story and the potential for change.

The teamwork among staff has been another highlight, as we rely on one another for support and safety, creating a strong sense of unity and trust. Overall, my experience has taught me discipline, responsibility, and the importance of treating others with fairness and respect.
