Photo Gallery: Death Row and Execution Chamber

All executions are carried out in Unit 17 at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman.

All Death Row inmates are also housed in Unit 17. When an execution is scheduled, an inmate is moved within Unit 17 from his previously assigned cell to a designated holding cell within a few days before the sentence is carried out.

Also known as the Maximum Security Cell Block, the structure was originally established in 1954. Renovations were made to Unit 17 starting in 2024 and Death Row inmates were previously housed in Unit 29.

Death Row inmates were moved from Unit 29 to Unit 17 in October 2025 when the renovated facility was ready for housing.
