The Mississippi Department of Corrections must prepare inmates pre-release for their return into the community. When an inmate is released from prison, there are immediate needs that must be met, such as housing, clothing, transportation, medical assistance, and food. The MDOC provides access to the following resources prior to release:
- Mississippi State-Issued Identification Card and/or Driver’s License
- Mississippi State-Issued 6-month Provisional Driver’s License
- Medicaid Benefits for an eligible pre-release inmate
- Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income (SSI/SSDI) Benefits
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
- Child Support Assistance Program
- Transitional Housing
- Clothing
