The Policy, Planning, Research and Evaluation Department (PPRE) is the central repository for data collection, research and analysis in order to provide projected strategies for improving Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) development, management, operations, and policy-based initiatives.
The PPRE Division is responsible for formulating, implementing, promulgating and maintaining comprehensive policies and standard operating procedures that provide for the orderly operation and maintenance of MDOC. The Division makes recommendations for policy improvements, conducts regular evaluations of current business practices, prepares responses to information or surveys as requested and maintains an organized historical archive of policies and procedures. MDOC’s comprehensive policies and procedures have been identified as an agency strength.
In addition PPRE provides recommendations to departments specific to improving processes and practices, provides statistical reports that reflect current population and trends, provides timely impact statements to legislative members and MDOC officials on pending and/or proposed legislation, and networks with other correctional leaders in search for best practices and the latest technologies.
