The Mississippi Correctional Institute for Women (MCIW) is located on the grounds of the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility (CMCF) in Pearl in Rankin County. MCIW houses female inmates of all custody levels (minimum, medium, and close) and any female inmates sentenced to death.

Incoming female inmates sentenced to MDOC custody in county circuit courts in Mississippi are first transported from county jails to MCIW for orientation and initial classification. They may remain at MCIW or be assigned housing at one of the other two locations for female inmates.

The facility formerly known as Building 720 within the front area of the CMCF complex was converted in March 2023 to begin housing female inmates. It was given its own designation as a separate institution and one of only three facilities in the MDOC system to house female inmates.

A new chapel to serve the religious needs of the female prison population was completed and dedicated on June 15, 2023. 

Personnel: MCIW’s legislative authorized personnel levels are included with CMCF. 

Healthcare: Through the state’s contracted healthcare vendor, VitalCore Health Strategies provides onsite medical services to its inmates. Onsite services include, but are not limited to, emergency care, infirmary care, dental, optometry, clinical, and pharmaceutical services. Specialty care services are also available through a network of off-site contracted hospitals and specialty care providers.
