The Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) partners with county governments to house state inmates in 15 regional correctional facilities located throughout Mississippi. These facilities serve an important role in supporting the department’s mission of protecting public safety while providing secure, cost effective offender management and opportunities for rehabilitation and successful reentry.
Regional correctional facilities operate under the authority of their respective county sheriff’s departments through agreements with MDOC. Each sheriff appoints the facility warden and is responsible for the administration, staffing, and day to day operations of the facility.
MDOC provides oversight through the Division of Regional and Private Facilities to ensure compliance with state law, departmental policies, contractual requirements, and accepted correctional standards. Compliance staff routinely monitor facility operations, review operational practices, evaluate performance, and work collaboratively with facility leadership to promote safe, secure, and efficient correctional operations.
Regional facilities also provide inmates with access to educational, vocational, treatment, faith based, and reentry programming designed to encourage positive behavioral change, reduce recidivism, and prepare offenders for successful reintegration into their communities.
Questions or concerns regarding inmates housed at a regional correctional facility should first be directed to the facility’s administration or warden, who is responsible for the inmate’s daily management and care.
