I am J. Matthew Reynolds and I serve as the Deputy Superintendent at the Mississippi State Penitentiary (MSP) in Parchman. I have been employed with MDOC since January 2008.

My job duties include oversight of all operations at MSP such as ERT Teams, K-9, Special Operations, and Wardens/Deputy Wardens at each unit. During my career, I have served as an Internal Affairs Coordinator at the South Mississippi Correctional Facility (SMCI), and an Integrity Investigator with the Corrections Investigations Division (CID). While working with CID, I served on the United States Marshal Service Task Force, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations Joint Terrorism Task Force, HUMIT Task Force, and Public Corruption Task Force. I have also served as the Chief of Security and Deputy Superintendent at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility (CMCF).

I decided to make a career with the MDOC after speaking to my uncle, former Lieutenant James McCaa who served at SMCI. I have enjoyed my career at MDOC, due to the fact that each day is different. You have the opportunity to affect people’s lives in a positive way every day. Seeing the change that is happening within the agency is rewarding and makes your job meaningful.

Bringing back professionalism within the agency is an important objective, and changing the lives of as many inmates as we can, is also of great importance. We are watching the prison population change. More inmates are working; programs, schools, and churches are being implemented; and field ministers are growing across the inmate population. MDOC is a family and we all pull together to get the job done.
