JACKSON –Several buildings including two housing zones at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman are in need of repair because of major damage from last Saturday’s severe weather in the Delta.
The prison also experienced power outage because of downed electrical poles. Power was fully restored, except for one non-housing area, where power was expected to be restored today.
No inmate evacuation was needed. Prison officials acted swiftly in that 111 inmates were immediately moved from Building 26A to another location, and a tarp was placed over that unit.
Weekend visitation went according to schedule with no problems reported.
As of today, operations are normal. Assessments are pending. A dollar estimate on the damage has not been determined.
